"As a professional involved in the Himalayan mountain development process for the last few decades, I feel honored to be able to serve the Himalayan regions once again through UCSS.
Mountain people do not simply make out an existence. The environment in which they live challenges them regularly and they have to respond creatively. Through their ingenuity and creativity, mountain people have given us many things: maize, potatoes, yaks, to name but a few; and they have also provided us spirituality through their diverse cultures.
UCSS, as a regional knowledge center, cannot stand by and watch events pass by the mountain communities. It will take the initiatives needed to bring mountain people together so that regional collaborations and partnerships can be fostered to enhance the contributions of the mountain areas, and will ensure that mountain communities are well accounted for in the decisions made by downstream and other areas of the world. |
